Summary: ListOfValues 2.0 released

All applications face the problem of referential data's retrieval and access. Two major uses are : populating combo boxes, and displaying a field's description from its Id.

Imagine a Person's detail screen where you display its attributes as they were returned by an entity EJB : name, address, country. In the Person's object, the country is just a reference (a foreign key) to the country object. If you want to display the country's name in place of its ID, you have to get it from the database, and the simplest and quickest way here is to use a List Of Values (LOV).

Bright Side Factory's ListOfValues is a simple and performant implementation, focused on J2EE applications accessed by rich Java/Swing clients. Each LOV is basically a collection of (id, description) items, as a resultset of a SQL statement executed on the server and made available to the client application.

A cache on the client side and a native cache (entity EJB) on the server side make the LOV very quick. In addition, it's possible to load LOVs in background on the client, making them locally available on the first attempt to use them.

See by yourself how this package could help you by launching the online LOV demo on !

List Of Values V2.0 is the result of a repackaging of the List Of Values service available as part of the Bright Side Framework v1.1. It's open-source with a BSD license.
